Dear Students (and Parents),
St. Sebastian Regional School is pleased to announce the inception of "Club Day"! The students will be able to select a 1 hour long club to participate in on Club Days. The K-3 classes will have one club period from 10:30-11:30 and the 4-8 classes will have 2 1-hour club periods from 9:30-11:30.
The clubs that will be offered by each teacher-sponsor will be many and varied. From Science Club to the Little Teachers Club that will work with Pre-K students, the students will have a choice in the clubs in which they would like to participate. There will still be the same after school activities offered now (Chess Club, Newspaper, Yearbook and the different sports). Clubs will all be in addition and have the added bonus of allowing everyone in school to participate without needing to make transportation arrangements (the only exception being Kitchen Club) or incur any cost.
Long supporting the school activities for the students, PTG will be providing generous start-up funds for the clubs. Additional funds will come from the box tops that have been collected and a few small school-sponsored fundraisers (like Dress Down Days). Once the clubs are established, donations will also be welcomed (for example, the Crochet Club would take extra yarn for their projects which can be eventually donated as part of our community outreach).
As with all of our school activities, students must meet basic requirements to be able to participate:
- The student may have no incomplete work for any classes. All work (tests, homework assignments, overdue projects, etc…) must be made up in their entirety to be eligible.
- Grades in the classes must not be in the failing range.
- Students receiving disciplinary action will not be allowed to participate. Office referrals, detentions, uniform infractions, and citizenship issues will all be considered when deciding eligibility for the clubs
To reinforce the requirements, each club day will also have a remedial room staffed by a teacher. The students assigned to this room will be responsible for making up their work, studying, or getting a bit of "re-training" in some basic rule areas.
We are pleased to be offering your children something new and exciting at St. Sebastian Regional School!
Mr. Steven Dorko
Principal, St. Sebastian Regional School
